Long Covid // Derealization
Hanah Yendler's piece was born of what Long Covid has done to my existence - torn it completely apart, to the point where I don't recognize myself most days. And yet I am left to try to pick up the pieces of myself and mend them back together as best I can. Before Long Covid, I was so vivacious and living life to the fullest - now I am unable to work, live independently, or socialize normally. I want this piece to both express my experience as well as educate others on the continued dangers of the covid pandemic, given that 7% (and growing) of the US population suffers from Long Covid, many in debilitating ways.
I collaborated with Sentio Photography to produce the photograph, then tore it all up and stitched it back together with gold thread, inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi.

Artist Statement
As an artist, I enjoy pushing the limits of what artistic mediums can be by combining them in an unexpected ways. I have dabbled in many different art forms over the years, and focused mostly on aesthetic and decorative art for my career. In more recent years, I have begun to explore the relationship between capturing deeper and difficult emotions in my art.
