Dissolving
This piece started out as a full body painting (using my body as the painting tool) and morphed into a mixed media piece including several photographs taken during the painting process. It is a meditation on body, aging, femininity, and decay. I use layers of tissue paper in my work to over and uncover, protect and scrape away, hide and reveal.

About The Artist
Katrin Ciaffa is an artist, writer and musician from Hamburg, Germany who lives in Sonoma County. Self-taught, self-deprecating, and unable to choose only one form of creative expression, she has finally surrendered to doing what brings her joy. Aside from making art in various formats, that includes working in the nonprofit world, hoping to have a positive impact on her community.
Artist Statement
For me, the process of painting is communication. My communication is with the painting. The painting will tell me what it needs. Sometimes it will make loud demands; sometimes it will make quiet suggestions. Sometimes it will pout and not say anything at all. Sometimes I want something different and we fight. Generally, the painting wins.
