About The Artist
Kim Smith lives in San Francisco and maintains a studio at Hunters Point Shipyard. After a childhood of living in and traveling extensively throughout Europe, she is greatly influenced by German and Austrian art of the late 19th and early 20th centuries: the Dada, Bauhaus, and Wiener Werkstätte movements, as well as Russian Constructivism.
Artist Statement
Kim Smith works with original antique materials to bring authenticity to her collages and share the beauty of her early experiences. Her work is intimate and thought provoking. She is influenced by the museums and flea markets that her parents exposed her to. Her idea of fun is painstakingly cutting and arranging elements from a sea of paper spread amongst tables in her studio.
