About The Artist
Stela Mandel grew up in New York and began her formal art training at the High School of Art and Design. Always interested in anatomy, she went on to get an MS in Medical and Scientific Illustration at the University of California San Francisco. At her studio in the Industrial Center Building in Sausalito,Stela continues to paint as well as work as a freelance medical illustrator.
Artist Statement
In my representational work I paint scenes of every day life - people, places and activities. While painting I am focused on composition and the process of painting rather than the emotion. It is only when I step back to look at what I’ve done that I get to see what I really thought or felt about the subject
