Trust the Tale
Loosely based on a riveting photo of DH Lawrence, the title comes from a famous quote of his: “Never trust the artist. Trust the tale”. Lawrence was infuriated by idealistic posturing masking an essential violent core. He believed the more primitive core revealed itself regardless of attempts to squelch or tame it. I couldn’t resist having a go at the photo - where Lawrence’s buttoned up suit, closely knotted tie and tightly coiled arms are unable to contain his own intensity.

About The Artist
In her figurative work celebrating women and exploring memory, the art award-winning work invites the viewer to come close and be tantalized by layers and surprising color choices. Freedom to move between mediums and moods is essentia to keeping joy at the helm of her creative process. Her work has been juried into shows nationally and internationally, and into the De Young open exhibition twice.
Artist Statement
A strong mood and story is hinted at in much of my work. As an artist and retired psychologist, I’m endlessly moved by how we humans try, often fail, yet try again to connect with one another. My figurative paintings are all about exploring that tension, and the quest for connection, realized or not.
